About

When blending data sources in Tableau, you may come across a time when two fields cannot be linked because they are not called the same thing.

Example: Data Source A Dimension: Patient Visit Number, Data Source B Dimension: Visit Number.

Solution

To link those fields, you will need to rename one field to match the other.

Steps to Rename Field:

  1. Right-click the field and select "Rename" from the list of options.

  2. It should automatically link the fields together and if not, you can click the paperclip to make it so the 2 data sources are linked based on the Visit Number.
