About

This article outlines the most common workflows for when hospitals place patients in - Capacity IQ® PreAdmit.

Hospitals can use many different workflows. The one listed in this article simply outlines the most commonly seen workflow when a patient comes into the hospital and needs to be admitted.

This workflow follows a patient from their PreAdmit status, the unit request, the bed assignment, and finally the admission.

Steps

  1. Most commonly, the patient is brought into Capacity IQ® via the interface through an A05 message.

    1. This places the patient in Capacity IQ® as a PreAdmit.

    2. They are unassigned by default and have no assigned bed from the A05 message.

  2. Once in the system, Patient Placement may either use an order from the interface to activate the request or can manually activate the request by clicking the red requested timer, turning it green.

  3. When the request is activated, the patient should appear on the Patient Placement PreAdmitTracking views.

    1. At this point, a bed request can be placed to the intended unit via the Capacity IQ® UI. This can also be done via orders in the interface.

  4. Once the patient is given a target unit the request is created. Any users set to receive notifications for the "requested" action then get a notification and the patient then appears on their Capacity IQ® PreAdmit list views for incoming patients.

  5. The unit staff can then assign the patient a bed, creating an assignment.

    1. Notifications can go out again at this point.

    2. The ready-to-move timer may also be used on the Patient Placement side to indicate that the patient is ready to be moved to the unit.

  6. Once the patient is moved, the hospital's registration system is used to send an ADT update via A01 or A02 message (or sometimes A08) which then admits the patient to the intended bed.
