Physical and Logical Structures


Definition

Physical structures: the buildings, floors, and rooms (actual hospital layout).

Logical structures: the functional divisions of the physical structures such as units, sections, zones, clusters, and locations.

  • Logical locations are groupings of areas where employees can be assigned to work (zones and sections) and from where they can view data (wards and clusters).


Scope

Each campus has both physical and logical structures which are intertwined.

  • For example, rooms are associated with wards/units.
