Discipline

Disciplines are groups of special related units. Units are associated with disciplines on the Unit PreAdmit Settings tab. For example, there might be a discipline called Restricted that contains units that should house special patient populations that must be segregated from other patients, such as prisoners. Disciplines are used in the Capacity IQ® PreAdmit application projected census and in the advanced search feature on the Patient/Placement Details form. Administrators with the necessary permissions use this feature to manage and segregate special patient populations during the configuration of unit settings and patient placement.

Where you can find this feature: Admin Tool > Dictionary Management or Admin > Settings > Capacity Management > Miscellaneous > Dictionary Management.

How Discipline Works

Functionality

Disciplines are configured in the Dictionary Management page. To access this page, you need the Admin Tool Menu permission and the administrative permission called Disciplines. You must have Edit rights to make changes. If you have View rights, you may see, but not change, bed attributes in the Admin Tool or Admin > Settings > Capacity Management component.

Permissions Required

  • Admin Tool Menu permission: To access the Admin Tool menu or Admin > Settings > Capacity Management.

  • Disciplines permission: To configure disciplines.

  • Edit rights: To make changes.

  • View rights: To view but not change bed attributes.

Workflows

To Add, Edit, or Delete a Discipline:

  1. Display the Dictionary Management page:

    • Go to Admin > Settings > Capacity Management > Miscellaneous > Dictionary Management.

  2. To add disciplines:

    • Click Add to add a new row at the bottom of the page.

    • In a blank row in the Name column, type a discipline (e.g., Restricted).

    • Click Save. The new discipline appears on the page.

    • To add more disciplines, repeat the above steps.

  3. To edit existing disciplines:

    • In the appropriate rows and columns, change the information.

    • Click Save.

  4. To delete a discipline:

    • Note: You cannot delete a discipline that is already associated with a unit. A discipline called None appears by default and cannot be deleted.

    • To delete all disciplines, select the checkbox in the first row and first column of the page.

    • To delete individual disciplines, select the checkboxes for them.

    • Click Delete Selected Records.

    • When a confirmation message appears, click OK.
